Start Of The Second Quarter For The NFL

For the 2nd straight week, I went 12-4.  I'm feeling pretty confident in my picks this week as always.  Week 5 has some great match ups.  Here is what I got for you NFL fans.  Enjoy Sweet Lifers!!!!!!!!!!

Tennessee at Pittsburgh

I don't know what to make of the Steelers.  They haven't shown anything this season expect for the fact that they look worn out and old.  The titans look to have found their niche.  As much as I hate to do this, I'm choosing the Titans.

Winner:  Titans

Seattle at New York Giants

That was a fumble by the way.  We have seen that play countless times from random spikes with no one around to that Marvin Harrison play against Denver a few years back in the Playoffs.  The Giants should of lost that game, but I'm a fan of Big Blue, so I'm happy.....lol.  Seattle has promise, but Osi is back and this pass rush is going to be insane.

Winner:  Giants

Cincinnati at Jacksonville

The Bengals be the Bills, in which I was very surprise, but Dolton played his ass off.  I like the rookie a lot and I think they are capable of pulling off the upset.  I'm rolling with the Bengals!

Winner:  Bengals

New Orleans at Carolina

Football fans in the Carolina area should start preparing for a great offensive show.  You have Brees and Newton going head to head.  Two teams with big play ability.  I wouldn't be surprise if we saw college football numbers in this one.  I'm giving the edge to the vet Drew Brees.

Winner:  Saints

Oakland at Houston
*Game Of The Week*
*Coin Flip*

This is my game of the week.  Raiders lost to the Patriots but that's not a bad thing.  Patriots are acting the way they should be acting.  Like champions.  The Texans are amazing especially with Foster back, which will provide another reason why the Texans should win the AFC South.  This is a close one.

Winner:  Texans by coin toss

Philly at Buffalo

Philly is 1-3 so far this year, which proves once again that getting star players doesn't always workout.  The Bills came up short thanks to the ref, but it's part of the game.  Look for the Bills play as hard as possible in their home field.  The fans will be loud and best believe that they will be coming after Vick often.

Winner:  Bills in a close one

K.C. at Indy

Painter should be been the starting quarterback from the get go.  I believe that is was a slap in the face when they brought in the brittle veteran in Kerry Collins.  With this youth at under center, look for the Colts to gain their first victory.

Winner:  Colts

Arizona at Minnesota

Vikings are still winless and the Cardinals aren't much better.  Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the toilet bowl where everything smells like crap.  For the crap game,  I feel like the Cards have better crap on their side in Hightower and Larry.

Winner:  Cardinals

Tampa Bay at San Fran

This is going to be a great match up.  Both are coming off of good victories, but the 49ers came off of a great comeback win over the Eagles.  San Fran at home.

Winner:  49ers in a close one

San Diego at Denver

No comment.  Chargers will roll all over them.

Winner:  Chargers

New York Jets at New England

I believe in one of their match ups, the Patriots put up close to 50 on the Jets.  Look for that to happen again. The Jets just aren't that good this year.  They can't block and can't run.

Winner:  Patriots

Green Bay at Atlanta

This is going to be awesome especially for the Packers.  The Packers have been putting up some crazy numbers.  They need to stay health and if they do, you are looking at repeat.

Winner:  Packers

Chicago at Detroit

What a way to end off week 5.  You have a great defense facing the cardiac kids.  The Lions don't know what quit means and that's why I choose them to win.

Winner:  Lions go 5-0

Moving On To Week 4 In The NFL

Week 3 has been my best week so far.  I went 12 - 4.  With the Lions, Packers and Bills being undefeated; this season is on the right track in being the most competitive one yet.  With that being said, lets check out the tail of the tape.

Week 4

Detroit vs Dallas

The Lions is a true shocker this year.  If Matt stays healthy, I believe they can sneak into the playoff picture.  Romo is still hurting and this defense will not let up.  I don't think anyone at the moment will be able to back Suh.  I predict pain in the near future and I'm rolling with the pride.

Winner:  Lions

New Orleans vs Jacksonville

Now I know the Saints will win this game, but the question is by how much.

Winner:  Saints

Tennessee vs Cleveland

I'm not sure what to make of this game.  I feel like the Titans are on the right track, but at the same time . . .*Shoulder Shrug*

Winner:  Titans

Buffalo vs Cinci

They beat the Patriots.  They will be the Bengals.

Winner:  Bills

Washington vs St. Louis

Redskins had a lot of mistakes against the Cowboys, beat I think they bounce back big against the Rams.

Winner:  Redskins

San Fran vs Philly

The 49ers are OK this year.  The Eagles might not start Vick, so that is huge.  Vick doesn't like to get hit, so hit him!

Winner:  Eagles

Minnesota vs KC

KC is just terrible.  They need to hit the reset ASAP!

Winner:  Vikings

Pitt vs Houston

The Steelers had problems with the Colts and the Texans had a field day with Indy.

Winner:  Texans in a close one

Carolina vs Chicago

I'm hoping Urlacher introduces himself to Cam Newton via a sack.  This is my coin flip of the week.

Winner:  Carolina 2 straight

ATL vs Seattle

Now the Falcons fell in a close on to Tampa last week.  Competitive, but still a another one in the lost column. They will rebound.

Winner:  Falcons

New York Giants vs Arizona

Cardinals are terrible, but then you don't know what you get with the Giants.

Winner: Giants

Denver vs Green Bay

Broncos are just not doing it this year.  Don't know why they went so bad, but either way it makes no difference in this contest.

Winner:  Packers

New England vs Oakland

The Patriots will fall in the black hole.

Winner:  Raiders

Miami vs San Diego

Dolphins in a win in the worse way, but won't find it here.

Winner:  Chargers

New York Jets vs Baltimore

OK, I'm already feeling this match up.  Defense, Defense and more Defense.  I feel like the Ravens have a step or two the Jets.  New York is still struggle with offensive line assignments.  That will make them fall.  Don't forget what happened last year.

Winner:  Ravens

Indy vs Tampa Bay

The Colts showed signs of life against Pitt last week, but their were only signs.  Nothing written in stone expect for the fact that Peyton Manning is the Colts.

Winner:  Bucs

Week 1 NFC EAST

Opening Week in the National Football week went by with no problems.  We saw teams run smoothly and then we had a few bumps in the road.  After the first round of games, this is what I can see taking place in the NFC East.

New York Giants

On The Plus Side:     The Giant's defensive line seemed to be the only one playing throughout the game.  With consistent pressure, they managed to layout Grossman 4 times, but forced no turnovers.  That's the only positive I saw.

What Needs To Improve:   Everything else suffered.  Their offensive line couldn't protect Manning giving up a ton of pressure leading to 4 sacks and 1 interception that was returned for a touchdown.  Their injuries really showed face.

Placing:  I don't see them finished in the top 2.  I see the New York Giants maybe going 7-9.  They are just too hurt on defensive to contend with anyone at this point and their schedule doesn't get any easier.  They have the Rams coming up and with a suspect secondary, I think Bradford with do some real damage this upcoming Monday Night.

Washington Redskins

On The Plus Side:     Rex Grossman actually looked good.  Despite being pressured by the Giant's D-line, he threw for 305 yards and 2 touchdowns.  He found WRs open amongst the downsized pass defense of the New York Giants.

On The Plus Side:     The Redskins defensive is much improved.  With much stronger D-line, they caused the Giants trouble all day long.  They got to Manning 4 times, forced a fumble and had a pick 6.

What Needs To Improve:     Their is always room for improvement.  First thing that comes to mind would be the run.  They weren't able to break a hundred yards this time, but came up with 76 yards.  A good running game keeps the defense honest thus opening up play action pass.

Placing:     If they are this good, I can see they stealing 9 to 10 wins.  The defense needs to keep the pressure going.  Lets see how they do against the Cardinals and Dallas the following week.  If they come out 3 and 0, look for them to be a playoff contender.

Dallas Cowboys:

On The Plus Side:    These aren't the same Cowboys from last year.  Rob Ryan has made men out of their defense from a year ago.  Pressure doesn't even began to explain how they play.  They go hard!  On the flip side, the offense seemed to have their way with Rex Ryan and the New York Jets Sunday night.

What Needs To Improve:    They gave up 17 points in the 4th quarter to the Jets.  They have to finish games.  If they gain that killer instinct, look for them to win the NFC East and may be win a playoff game in which they haven't done in almost 14 years.

Placing:     They can be good.  They can be really good, but they need to finish strong.  They put up a quick 10 points on the Jets defense.  Romo threw for 342 yards with 2 touchdowns, but 1 costly inception.  If they learn how to finish, they can be a force in the NFC.  I think they will finish 10-6, but they need to finish games.

Philadelphia Eagles

On The Plus Side:     Their offense seems to have got off to a great start.  Even though it was against St. Louis, they were productive and that is all that really matters.  With Vick at QB, I don't see them giving up a lot of games.

What Needs To Improve:     I still think that their offensive and defensive lines are weak.  Yes, they were able to score and score often, but I just don't think they can be considered an elite team without a stand out O and D-line.

Placing:     If they get their respective lines in order, I can see them taking the NFC east.  I don't see them winning every game, but 11 games or so.  I believe they will get home field advantage in the 1st round, but they won't get a bye week in the playoffs.

Those are my views after week 1.  I think have the most work to do out of the NFC east, but only time will tell.  It's a long season and I'm looking forward to every game.

University Of Maryland Shows Pride

Last night was The University Of Maryland's opening game against the famed Miami Hurricanes.  The talk wasn't about the scandal that took place in south Florida, but rather the uniform that Maryland wore.

In a show of state pride, University Of Maryland wore a uniform inspired by their state flag.  The social networking community went A-Wall over this choice of pride.  Many where hating this idea calling it a "Fail" but I roll with the side of creativity and honorable.  Nothing will get your fan base to rally behind more than showing pride for who you play for.  I commend the athletic director of Maryland.  Wise choice and I'm all for it.

This outcry by social media made me think back to some real epic fails in the sports uniform world.  Below are some uniforms that were better off being erased from history.  The order will go from ok to WTF.  Behold the uniform fails courtesy of the National Football League.  Enjoy

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Throwbacks

Arron Rodgers December 5th, 2010 with the Green Bay Packer's throwback . . . .really?

Now this is bad.  From fashion no no to what the heck were you thinking.  This is by far the worst in NFL history.

So, there you have it.  Maryland did their thing when it can to creativity and pride.  As for the other photos, Tampa Bay isn't bad.  I believe the orange cream color uniforms stood out.  Moving on to the Packers, it could of been worse.  I mean they are still bad, but the team has so much history that you really can't be that mad at them.  Please note that the choice still sucked, but it didn't earn honors of Epic Fail and WTF.  Those awards go to the Eagles.  This choice is so bad that I will not even comment.

Lock Out Is Over And I Couldn't Be Happier

Their was a moment in time where I thought that the NFL wouldn't return for another epic season, but thank God the millionaires and billionaires figured it out.  With some players done for the season already and only one preseason game being missed, the National Football League seems to be back on track and stronger than ever.

Even though I may get hung for this next point by some people, I feel like I'm right.  I do believe that the players had all the right in the world to hold out as long as they did.  Though I do believe it could be been taken care of sooner, their points were made.  The average NFL career spans 3.7 years, which isn't much at all.  Think about it in this light, you play from Pee-Wee to junior high to high school to college and then maybe you'll get to the pros.  That's basically your whole lifespan playing the sport that you love.  When thinking about it like that, they had the right to fight back.  Health care for present and past players was necessary.  Any union would of fought for that.  John Unitas couldn't dial a phone and some were in mental care due to the consistent hits.

As for the owners, I get their points.  Some teams were going in the whole like Jacksonville.  Some states just don't really care about their teams and Jacksonville ain't that bad.  Another example of this can be found in Major League Baseball with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.  They are one of the best teams in MLB with a horrible stadium and people that don't care, but enough about baseball, it's time for football.  Every business owner, big or small, wants to have a great profit and lost margin.  They want more money than what they invested, so I can see why they were holding out as well.  Make the most that you can, but at what cost?

With that being said, Larry Fitzgerald in his 2nd preseason game reminds us why we love this sport of Football!  I don't think this can be topped, so I'm going on record on saying that this is the catch of the year already.  Judge for yourself.

Thank you Larry Fitzgerald for reminding everyone why the NFL is mandatory in life!
